Cello, violin, viola classes set to start

The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra is beginning its classes this month in cello, violin and viola.
The cello class is new and will be taught by Kamehameha Schools Maui graduate Keani Kahuhu. The violin classes will be taught by Rona Landrigan, a Scottish violinist who trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and went on to play with the Camerata Orchestra of Athens, Greece. On Maui, she serves as concert mistress of the Maui Chamber Orchestra.
Violin and viola classes begin Saturday, with the beginning class from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The experienced class is from 10 to 10:45 a.m. The classes are for those in grades 4 through 7, although exceptions can be made.
Cello classes are open to students ages 7 and up and are limited to 10 students. They will begin Oct. 21 and run from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
Classes are held Saturdays in the Baldwin High School music room, which is next to the band room and behind the auditorium.
