Ecotourism to be focus of training

Maui Mauka Conservation Awareness Training will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in Kihei. There will also be a training from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 30 in the University of Hawaii Maui College Community Service Building.
The training aims to educate tour operators and guides about native ecosystems and species found in Hawaii and the projects that are helping conserve it.
Presentations about conservation and Maui’s natural environment are given by representatives from the Maui Invasive Species Committee, East Maui Watershed Partnership and Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project, among others.
Trainings are free and tour operators and guides are encouraged to attend.
