Hawaiian basketry workshops set
Sep 23, 2017 @ 8:30 am. - 4:30 pm.
“Kuka’ilimoku: The Preservation and Perpetuation of Hawaiian Basketry” will feature workshops starting monthly from Saturday to Aug. 12, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Maui Historical Society Hale Ho’iki’ike Bailey House Museum in Wailuku.
This Hana No’eau Workshop is being presented by the PAC Foundation, which has been awarded a cultural grant by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs aimed toward the preservation and perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture.
The foundation has partnered with master craftsman Kumula’au Sing and his wife, Haunani, to teach the fine art of weaving Hawaiian basketry. Participants will have opportunities to learn these ancient traditions through demonstrations, lectures, showcases, oli/mele and hands-on projects. These workshops will be presented in both the Hawaiian and English languages.
Refreshments will be provided by the PAC Foundation.
