Ho‘omau concert celebrates Hawaiian immersion preschool

Na Leo Pulama o Maui, the nonprofit group of the Hawaiian immersion preschool of Punana Leo o Maui, invites the public to celebrate a living Hawaiian language at the 31st annual Ho’omau Hawaiian Music Concert from 9 a.m. to sunset Saturday at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens in Kahului.
The event will feature Hawaiian musicians, Hawaiian cultural demonstrations, live and silent auctions, local food, creative craft vendors, a selection of ‘awa at Hale ‘Awa and a keiki zone.
The Hawaiian entertainment lineup will feature Na Huku Hanohano Award winners and Hawaiian immersion supporters, including: Kapena, Keauhou, Napua Greig, Kamaka Kukona, Josh Tatofi, Na Wai ‘Eha and Tava Nui. The students of Punana Leo o Maui, Punana Leo o Hana, Punana Leo o Lahaina and Ke Kula Kaiapuni o Maui will open the day with a series of Hawaiian mele to entertain the crowd.
Tickets are $15 presale and $20 at the gate. Children age 10 and younger will be admitted for free.
Tickets are available through Punana Leo O Maui’s school and parents, all Minit Stop locations, Maui Nui Botanical Gardens and Native Intelligence. Being that this is a nonprofit fundraiser, $10 of each ticket is tax-deductible.
Ho’omau Chair Ikaika Blackburn said, “I’d like to invite the whole community to come and enjoy the 31st annual Ho’omau Maui. For the first time, we will be featuring an LED screen for your viewing pleasure. E hele mai, ke ‘olu’olu, please come and celebrate Hawaiian language and culture through the eyes of our keiki, the future generation, here at Ho’omau Maui!”
