St. John’s Kula Festival to celebrate 35th year

Sep 23, 2017 @ 9:00 am. - 4:00 pm.

The 35rd annual St. John’s Kula Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 8992 Kula Highway, across from Keokea Park.

The festival will have a wide assortment of food, including Portuguese bean soup, waffles with fresh Kula strawberries, vegan curry, grilled hamburgers made with Maui Cattle Co. beef, fresh-made fudge and chow fun.

There will be fresh Kula produce, plants and cut flowers, homemade baked goods, a gift shop, a wide variety of crafters, children’s games, a silent auction and live entertainment all day long featuring Kanekoa, Joel Katz, the Chop Suey Jazz Orchestra, Jamie Lawrence, Hula Wehena O Ke Ao under the direction of Kumu Maka’ala Palmore, Brian & Meryl, and Soul Kitchen. There will also be a quilt show co-sponsored by the Maui Quilters Guild.

Admission is $1 or a canned good for the Maui Food Bank and children under 10 years of age will be admitted for free. The kids’ zone will include a wristband that allows them to play all day.

Proceeds from this event are shared with different local nonprofit organizations each year, which are selected by the church.

This year’s beneficiaries will be Ka Hale A Ke Ola, a homeless resource center, and Family Life Center, a transitional housing facility. They will each have a booth at the festival to tell people about their organizations.
