Upcountry course will introduce ki-aikido

A special four-week course to introduce the principles and practice of ki-aikido will be offered by Maui Ki-Aikido in October at the Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani, co-sponsored by the County of Maui.
Ki-aikido is a nonviolent martial art that teaches practical self-defense with a peaceful mindset and calmness training through movement. The classes for adults and teens will meet on four consecutive Tuesdays beginning Oct. 3 from 8 to 9:30 p.m.
Maui Ki-Aikido 4th Dan instructor Fincher Sterling, under the direction of 8th Dan Hawaii Ki Federation Chief Instructor Christopher Curtis, will cover the foundational aspects of aikido training, including meditation, breathing, relaxation, ki development exercises and aikido techniques. Participants will receive a copy of the book “Ki-Aikido on Maui — A Training Manual” by Curtis.
A requested donation of $40 will be applied at the end of the four-week course to the dues of any participant who joins to continue training.
