Cakebread wine dinner to be uncorked at Makena

Makena Beach & Golf Resort’s new Winery of the Month Series will launch Tuesday with a five-course Cakebread Cellars wine dinner.

Come and meet the winery’s Vice Chairman and Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Dennis Cakebread, when the sit-down feast is uncorked starting at 6:30 p.m. at Molokini Bar & Grille.

Cakebread will be on hand to provide his expertise on the various wine choices and share in the family tradition behind his premium Napa Valley wines.

The menu pairings have been meticulously created by Makena’s Executive Chef, Chef Marc McDowell. Begin the evening with Cakebread sauvignon blanc as you enjoy Molokai potato-fried lobster salad with Big Island citrus vinaigrette. Other wines to be poured include Cakebread Cellars select chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and zinfandel.

Savor seared prosciutto-wrapped sea scallops in a morel mushroom butter broth; pepper-seared ahi with baby bok choy and cherry demi glace; and pancetta and truffle-stuffed filet mignon with creamy polenta, baby vegetables and savoy cabbage in veal reduction.

The piece de resistance will be molten-chocolate lava cake with mixed berries Anglaise for dessert. Cost is $100 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Seating is limited and reservations are required.

In addition, throughout the month of January, the resort will continue to celebrate Cakebread Cellar Wines with a three-flight tasting you may pair with all of Molokini Bar & Grille’s weekly restaurant specials.

Tonight from 6 to 7, you may also partake in Makena Beach & Golf Resort’s first Food & Wine Education Event in 2013. Once again, the property’s oceanfront Molokini Bar & Grille will set the stage with plump and juicy scallops in olive oil and citrus, and albondigas and chorizo.

Sip wines such as Don Olagario from Albarino Winery; Montebuena from Rioja; and Vall Llach from Embruix. Cost is $35 per person.
