The Westin Maui Resort & Spa is putting on a spread for Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 12, which will be music to Mom’s ears, when she hears about it.
The elaborate Mother’s Day brunch and concert will feature Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Anuhea and her friends Paula Fuga and Mishka.
The brunch will be set up in the spacious beachfront Aloha Pavilion from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The area will be unveiled after its recent redesign.
The magnificent surroundings will put Mom in the mood to enjoy with cascading waterfalls, tropical palms, and a series of koi ponds.
“The indoor outdoor feel is truly unique to this resort on Kaanapali Beach and provides a delightful experience for those seeking to pamper their beloved mothers on this special day,” said Harolyn Shimabukuro, food and beverage director.
Westin’s Executive Chef Garret Fujieda and his creative culinary team will pull out all of the stops.
Starters include chilled shrimp and snow crab, ahi and tako poke, Greek olives, fresh asparagus, marinated mushrooms, imported cheeses, and house-smoked salmon with mini bagels and caper cream.
“We have sourced farm-fresh ingredients produced locally to bring the vibrant flavors of the Hawaiian islands,” says Fujieda. These include robust salads with greens sourced within Maui.”
Dig into spicy Thai beef salad with hearts of palm and watercress; smoked chicken with Kula corn; tropical fruits; Haiku greens; and Kamuela tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and basil oil.
“Signature favorites to look forward to at the Mother’s Day Brunch Concert include the prime rib of beef, which is crusted with alae Hawaiian pink salt,” said Fujieda. “We’ll serve it with horseradish cream and natural jus.”
Other hot highlights are steamed island catch in chili-lemongrass jus, penna pasta and sundried tomatoes in vodka cream; and traditional breakfast favorites such as bacon, cheese blintzes.
“Even the desserts will feature delectable selections using locally made products such as thickly cut Hawaiian sweet bread in the bourbon-pecan bread pudding,” elaborates Chef Fujieda.
Other desserts are red-velvet cupcakes, mocha cream puffs, fruit tarts, and Tahitian vanilla eclairs.
“The resort will also offer spa renewal packages at the Heavenly Spa by Westin and incredible Kama’aina Mom room packages,” says Sumithra Balraj, Westin’s director of public relations.
Brunch is $85 adults, $60 for children 6 to 12, and free for younger kids. Kamaaina room rate is $279, with two brunch tickets and late check-out. Call 661-2992.
