Ulupalakua Ranch to present tasting, tour

This month, Ulupalakua Ranch will celebrate 50 years of ownership by the Erdman family with two events on Sunday, June 30.

For the first time in its history, the ranch will open its 23-acre vineyard to an exclusive tour and wine and pupu tasting.

Attendees will not only earn about the challenges and successes of grape-growing on Haleakala, they will enjoy a vertical tasting the winery’s Estate Wines paired with light appetizers prepared by Chef Will Munder of Ulupalakua Ranch Store.

The tour will kick off at 10:30 a.m. and will include a vertical set of 2010 and 2011 Syrah wines for you take home. Cost is $150 for the first person, and $125 for the guest.

Also on Sunday, June 30, Ulupalakua Inspires will transpire from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s a free afternoon of music, hula, historical displays, information booths, and wine tasting. One highlight will be the Looking Back talk-story session with Pardee Erdman, who purchased the ranch in 1963.

A paniolo barbecue will feature hulihuli beef and lamb, just like in the old Ulupalakua Thing days. Slack-key master Jeff Peterson will perform live with award-winning bassist Nathan Aweau. For more details, visit www.mauiwine.com.
