Teppanyaki Dan ignites interest, appetites

At Teppanyaki Dan, you will find drama, comedy, action and adventure all rolled into one stellar night, featuring Japanese cuisine.

Situated ground level at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali, Teppanyaki Dan beckons couples, small groups and families with its fiery dinner show Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Teppan chefs slice and dice their way into your hearts and appetites by twirling knives, telling jokes and showing off their culinary prowess. Photo ops are plentiful, and it’s tons of fun.

It really is more than just a meal. It is a cultural experience topped off with filet mignon or lobster, and blended with exotic sauces prepared before your eyes by your own personal chef.

“The perfect dining experience should be one that culminates not only the flavors of the food, but the showmanship of the chef, and the creativity of the plated presentations,” says Brandon Maeda, director of Food & Beverage.

The “floral arrangement” appetizer of Upcountry greens served with roasted sesame seeds will dazzle you. So will the Oysters Dan, a nod to the famous Oysters Rockefeller with fresh oysters seared in white wine and lemon on spinach. Ditto for scallops in watercress pesto, lobster with lemongrass essence, and peppercorn-crusted steak.

Sip specialty chilled sakes and imported beers in the intimate setting, revel in the Asian artwork, and savor, say, the Kanpai Tasting menu for two for $60, which is chicken, beef or shrimp with the famous garlic-ginger fried rice, edamame, miso-clam soup, fresh Maui-grown vegetables and tsukemono.
