That’s right. Three’s Bar & Grill in Kihei just acquired a new food truck, and its four wheels will soon be spinning to surf spots and parties near you.
The three chef-owners of Three’s plan to roll out their new food truck business Sept. 6 at Wailuku’s First Friday Town Party; and they plan to “chase the surf,” where hungry athletes meet waves; and they’ll cater island weddings and events, too.
In fact, those attending Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ annual Garden Party on Sept. 8 at the Yokouchi Family Estate in Wailuku won’t be able to miss it among the other participants.
The 23-foot beast of a truck boasts a full kitchen. Its exterior entices with retro-style surf graphics with pictures of the surfer-dude chefs, and the food they serve.
The order window is flanked by a 52-inch flat-screen television that loops surf videos and food shots.
Catch new surf “vids” while waxing up your “shred sticks” and chomping on some “ono grindz” (island slang for “good eats”). Board wax is available.
So, “No worries, brah. We get ’em,” says partner Travis Morrin, who runs the truck, the catering business and the restaurant at Kihei Kalama Village with Jaron Blosser and Cody Christopher.
“We are stoked to take our show on the road and share our food with everyone across Maui,” says Blosser. “It’s always been a dream of ours to have a food truck since we opened in Kihei over three years ago. This is really an exciting moment in our company and one of many great new things we are doing.”
The longtime friends actually started their businesses so that they could surf whenever they wanted. Their latest opportunity to bring their newest “restaurant” to the surf is, well, swell.
“There is an up and coming trend for food trucks at events, private parties and even weddings,” Morrin continues.
“We want to be part of that movement here on Maui. I just know that our truck, and the food we can produce from our truck, is going to be a hit.”
The mainstay items will include Peruvian pork tacos with Kula corn, black bean and mango relish; Hamakua mushroom and Swiss-cheese burgers; hurricane French fries; panko-crusted ahi roll with Thai-curry butter sauce, and more, from the Three’s Bar and Grill’s award-winning menu. Food truck prices will range from $5 to $12.
Maui Juice Company will provide fresh and local organic fruit and vegetable juices on the spot. A breakfast menu is in the works for the fall and will feature freshly brewed Maui Oma Coffee.
Of course, board wax, will always be for sale when the waves are up. Three’s is also now launching a line of Chef Christopher’s Mango Habanero and Zangy Wangy BBQ sauces; and new merchandise with T-shirts, tank tops and koozies.
