As many of you know, Koa’s Seaside Grill reigns as the Best New Restaurant on island in The Maui News’ annual Best of Maui contest.
Situated between Kimo’s and Lahaina Yacht Club on Front Street in Lahaina, it juts over the water from its oceanfront location, its portions are ginormous and the prices are easy on the pocketbook – all adding up to a winning combination.
The owners are husband-and-wife team Jerry and Lucy Corson, who are veteran restaurateurs at the popular Gazebo in Napili. Their new venture is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Choose from the shady first-floor level, or head up the stairs to the rooftop and duck under an umbrella or just soak in the sun. Either way, you get stellar ocean and island views.
“Since the holidays are approaching us, this fall we are starting to promote our large party specials,” says Koa’s General Manager Buff Weaver, whom Mauians know from his 25 years in the business from Duke’s to Leilani’s and beyond.
“If you have from 20 to 50 people, we can do breakfasts for $13 per person, lunches for $22, and dinners for $31,” he says. “Of course, hours are limited, so do call ahead to reserve spots.”
For breakfast, wake up to a mountain of fried rice, and the Big Kahuna omelette packed with bacon, Portuguese sausage, onions, mushrooms, avocado and pepper jack cheese, served with potatoes or rice and toast. Breakfast is based on Gazebo’s winning concept.
Breakfast is served all the way until 3 p.m. Conversely, lunch goers may dive right into French dip sandwiches and fish tacos, starting at 9 a.m.
Happy hour jumps daily from 3 to 5 p.m., when you get $2 off of specialty drinks, house wines and draft beers. The ocean views are free.
Crowd-pleasing pupu are peel-and-eat edamame, seared ahi in ginger-soy sauce, steamer clams in white wine broth, and spinach-and-artichoke dip with crunchy crostini chips.
Seafood lovers will also find crab cakes, crispy calamari, coconut-crusted prawns with sweet Thai chili sauce, and oysters on the half shell. Dinner entrees include rock-salt roasted prime rib, kalua pork and fresh catch. Do try creme brulee in a pineapple bowl.
