Dragonfly fluttered into its spot on Lower Main Street in Wailuku with a soft opening at the end of October.

From 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, it will celebrate its grand opening with a Chinese New Year buffet along with lion dancing for good luck at 7 p.m. and live music by City n’ Country at 9 p.m.

Owner Annie Guan is from Shanghai, China, and entices with her authenic specialties. Chef Sun adds his expertise.

Their all-you-can-eat Chinese New Year buffet will feature Mongolian beef, sweet-and-sour pork ribs, braised chicken wings, orange chicken, salt and pepper crispy pork and duck.

Crunch egg rolls and crispy won tons and savor egg foo yung, pork hash balls, mu shu pork, fish, cake noodle, stir-fried eggplant, sour crispy cabbage, fried rice, Szechuan style tofu and chow mein noodles for longevity.

The dishes will rotate as the chefs replenishes the buffet table. The all-you-can-eat spread will also be presented Saturday. Cost is $25 per person, plus tax and tip.

The food is mainly Szechuan in style and you will also find kung pao beef, mapo tofu and other hot dishes on the regular menu. Lunch specials start at $9.95.

Situated ground level of the same building as Tokyo Tei restaurant, Dragonfly is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for food service, seven days a week. Its lounge also stays open until 2 a.m.
