Japengo gives back with special sushi school
A favorite activity of both locals and visitors alike, Japengo restaurant’s Sushi School takes place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. every second and fourth Saturday at the Pacific Rim dining destination, situated lobby level at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa on Kaanapali Beach. This hands-on class, led by Sushi Chef Kaz Kim, teaches you the art of sushi making, from selecting and preparing ingredients to rolling sushi like a master. Guests are encouraged to taste their creations throughout the class, and leave with recipes and tips to try at home.
As part of the Hyatt’s mission to continuously find creative ways to give back to the community, Japengo hosted Lahainaluna High School’s Japanese Club for a private complimentary Sushi School session last Saturday.
The club of 20 students joined Chef Kaz for their interactive experience and learned what it takes to be a sushi master.
Japengo is one of the highest-rated restaurants in Kaanapali. With multiple accolades and awards, the young restaurant has developed a dedicated following of locals and visitors in its three short years at Hyatt Regency Maui.
Come in and enjoy the array of Pacific Rim dishes, such as steamed Manila clams with kaffir lime and sambal; housemade duck pot stickers; and sashimi style hamachi with watermelon.
Overlooking the ocean, the ambience is unmatched. Sip a craft cocktail, listen to live music and savor sake glazed short ribs, sashimi, ahi poke tartare, miso soup and more. Sushi School costs $50 per person, and reservations are required. Call 667-4727 or visit www.japengomaui.com.
