Appreciate wines from A to Z in a new EdVenture course at University of Hawaii Maui College. Introduction to Becoming a Sommelier will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 and 10.

Instructor Horst Antosch will teach you all about wine from terroir to vinification. Learn to read wine labels, describe and pair wines with food, and serve it with expertise to the delight of your guests.

“This course is designed for staff in the hospitality industry or those looking to move into a new career as a sommelier, as well as wine lovers hosting wine tastings at home,” explains Antosch.

“Unlike the sommelier events conducted by wine aficionados that concentrate solely on a limited aspect of wine, I like to share my knowledge in wine service with people who enjoy wine, and want to learn how to share their appreciation with their customers or guests,” Antosch continues.

The course will provide hands-on learning and tricks of the trade from Antosch’s decades of experience as a restaurateur and educator, and now as sommelier/founder of the Grape to Glass, leading wine tastings at private residences and corporate events on Maui.

The course will be offered to adults in the Laulima Building of the UH Maui College in Kahului. The course fee is $139 per person.

Register for Introduction to Becoming a Sommelier, course No. HOSP6600 online at www.EdventureMaui.com. For further details, contact Nicolette van der Lee at nhv@hawaii.edu or call 984-3300.
