Brigit & Bernard’s Garden Cafe in Kahului rolls out the barrel of fun for Oktoberfest parties each weekend through the end of the month.

Doors open at 6 p.m. every Friday and Saturday and the all-you-can-eat German buffet and live music start at 6.30 p.m. The band performs the chicken dance as the dirndl and lederhosen-wearing crowd eats hearty Euro fare and clanks steins.

“The Oktoberfest in Bavaria is much bigger with 6.2 million people drinking 7.7 million liters of beer,” says Brigit & Bernard’s chef-owner Bernard Weber. “Ours is much smaller. But like the real Oktoberfest over there, we have authentic German menu items — and our oom-pah band, Die Dorfmusikantan, still has some original members. A couple have retired and hopefully will join us as guests.”

Brigit & Bernard’s buffet will include veal and pork bratwurst, grilled chicken, sauerbraten, pork roast, Hungarian goulash, warm potato salad, sauerkraut, braised red cabbage, Bavarian meat loaf, spaetzle and lentil soup with sausage.

“All of that creates a nice base for the German beers,” continues Bernard. “Erdinger Hefeweisse and dunkel as well as Erdinger non-alcoholic beer, Spaten premium and Oktoberfest, Stella draft, Franziskaner and Bitburger should help wash it down.”

The buffet costs $45 per person and $2 per year of age for those 6 to 16. Desserts, Jaegermeister shots and beers are extra. Call 877-6000.
