Maui Heath System invites public to three isle holiday lobby parties
Maui Health System will ring in the holidays with three Lobby Open Houses filled with music, tree lights, crafts, cookies and keiki. The three hospitals in the system — Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital — will open lobby doors for visits the first week of December with healthy themes from “Island Heart” to “Ohana” and “Giving.”
“We invite our island community to join us in celebrating our first full year as Maui Health System and want to share our new lobby renovations at Maui Memorial,” says Michael Rembis, CEO of Maui Health System.
“Maui Memorial Medical Center treats an average of 165 patients daily and 54,500 emergency visits per year that enter through our doors,” Rembis continues. “And in December, we welcome you for another reason. Come and get to know your hospital and those that serve our community.”
From 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Maui Memorial Medical Center and its staff will present the “Island Heart” themed event.
Enjoy Open House island-style and pose with a Hawaiian Santa for a photo near the 15-foot holiday tree in the lobby atrium decorated with garland and lights.
Local entertainers will get you in the holiday mood with festive tunes on the new grand piano that was donated by the Hospital Auxiliary. Valet parking is complimentary at the hospital entrance.
Between munching cookies and sipping hot cocoa, posing with Santa and delighting in the keiki performance by Punana Leo O Maui preschoolers, you may get your blood pressure measured by expert staff for free.
In addition, hospital departments have “adopted” patients as their “ohana,” or “family,” and will meet with them to distribute gifts as well as offer aloha.
“The touching tradition was started by our Obstetrics Nursing Department last year, and we want to continue to reach out and touch the hearts of people and families in our Maui community that may not receive a holiday gift otherwise,” says Rembis.
The theme for Kula Hospital’s event is “Giving Tree.” Visit the Upcountry facility from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Dec 7 for free cookies, coffee and hot cocoa and check out the donation tree at the same time.
“Kula Hospital residents can look forward to the holidays with the community donating gifts from the lobby Giving Tree,” Rembis explains. The public is invited to help out by becoming an “angel” and buying a gift request ornament for one of the patients.
On the Neighbor Island of Lanai, “Ohana” is the theme for the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. spanning three days from Tuesday to Dec. 6. Refreshments will be served and donated gifts for the residents will be distributed.
“We’ll be available for talk story and tours of the renovations at Lanai Community Hospital where our new Lanai and Kula hospitals administrator Kerry Pitcher will be available,” says Rembis.
Maui Health System and its associated clinics are affiliated with Kaiser Permanente.
