Grand Taste: Event within an event at ag fest
While the Maui County Ag Fest on Saturday will offer plenty to eat at pay-for food booths (see Island Events), with a $3 admission fee for adults; its Grand Taste under the tent will kick it up a notch with 12 top Maui chefs partnered with farmers for, well, grand local tastes.
For instance, Chef Eric Faivre of Grand Wailea will partner with Heidi Watanabe of Watanabe Processing to make Korean-inspired chap chae with crispy pork belly in Manoa lettuce cup.
Marc McDowell of Makena Beach & Golf Resort will team with Kumu Farms to make green bean and pork potstickers with firecracker slaw. Tylun Pang of The Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui will make zucchini and shrimp lumpia with Traje Farms produce. Wesley Holder of Pulehu: An Italian Grill will team with Shishido Farm to make kai choi lup chong manapua. Sheldon Simeon of Migrant will use Olowalu Nui Farm tomato confit with ahi kama. These and other chef-farmer participants will honor the varied culinary influences of immigrant laborers to Maui.
