MAUI OUTSTANDING PIANO AMATEURS

Amateur pianists are invited to try out for free at the Maui Outstanding Piano Amateurs Festival at Wailuku Union Church from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. followed by Master Classes by Damira Feldman and Lotus Dancer from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. FIVE SCHOOL BANDS TO PERFORM FREE CONCERT

The Maui District Middle School Massed Band Concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Maui High School Gymnasium. Performing will be students from the Iao, Kalama, Maui Waena and Lahaina intermediate school bands along with the Lanai High & Elementary School Band. Admission is free.

CONTRA DANCE SET AT MAKAWAO CHURCH

There will be a Contra Dance from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Makawao Union Church Hall at 1445 Baldwin Ave. in Makawao. Dance jigs and reels to the music of local Celtic session musicians. A dance instructor/caller will be present to offer instruction. A donation of $5 to $10 is suggested.

CELEBRATE WORLD WHALE DAY 2017

Pacific Whale Foundation presents the 37th annual World Whale Day 2017 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kalama Park in Kihei. The Parade of Whales will begin at 9 a.m. and festivities will follow at 9:30 a.m. Enjoy live entertainment, a keiki carnival and stage, a Made on Maui fair, Tidal Trash Treasures art contest, food booths and trucks and more. ADAPTATIONS DANCE COMPANY SAIL BENEFIT

Adaptations Dance Theater and Trilogy Excursions will host “Whale Song,” a sunset sail from 4 to 6 p.m. launching from Maalaea Harbor.
