FREE SCREENING OF ‘CHASING CORAL’ AT UH-MC

Organizing for Action is partnering with the Chasing Coral team and University of Hawaii Maui College Sustainable Science Management to present the award-winning documentary “Chasing Coral” free at 5:30 p.m. in room 144 of the ‘Ike Le’a Science Building on the college campus in Kahului. Research suggests that most of the world’s corals could perish within a few decades from rising temperature and increased acidity without immediate action. A brief panel discussion will follow.

16TH RICHARD HO’OPI’I FALSETTO CONTEST

The 16th annual Richard Ho’opi’i Leo Ki’eki’e Falsetto Contest will be held in the Kanahele Room at Ka’anapali Beach Hotel. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. Uncle Richard will be joined on stage by his ohana and will pay tribute to his band mate, the late Sheldon Brown. Admission is $60 with buffet dinner, festival ribbon and entertainment included. For tickets or more information, call 280-8098.

GREAT AUTUMN FESTIVAL AT WAILUKU MISSION

Maui Jinsha Mission presents its Great Autumn Festival with a service at 4:30 p.m., dinner at 5:30 and entertainment from 6:30 p.m. There will be taiko, dance, karaoke and more. The mission is located at 472 Lipo Place in Wailuku. For more information, call 244-4048.

FUN ACTIVITIES AT MAUI’S PUBLIC LIBRARIES

Local public libraries are offering free events. Saturday: Keiki ages 2 to 8 years and older are invited to Eric Carle’s classic “A Very Hungry Caterpillar” set to yoga poses at 10:30 a.m. at the Kihei library. Also on Saturday, join Koryu Nishikawa V, a fifth generation Master Puppeter of the Kuruma Ningyo style. Watch how the ancient puppets are brought to life at 2 p.m. at the Kahului library. Wednesday: Discover the Classics with Papa Lopaka for ages 6 and older at 3 p.m. at the Kihei library. ‘A PAIRING FOR PETS’ BENEFIT FOR MAUI PETS

Kohola Brewery and Chef Rob Mason present “A Pairing for Pets,” a benefit for Maui Humane Society from 5 to 8 p.m. at the brewery located at 910 Honoapiilani Highway in Lahaina. CABARET NIGHT AT CAFE DEL VINO IN MAALAEA
