SEE AWARD-WINNING HALAU COMPETING. Ku Mai Ka Hula features award-winning halau competing in kahiko (traditional) and ‘auana (modern) styles of hula in solo and group performances from Japan, the Mainland, as well as Maui and Oahu. Tonight: Kakua Ka Pa’u, A Discussion on ‘A’ahu Hula – a panel of kumu hula will cover traditions they carry in respect to costuming their halau, trends, inspiration and more at 7:30 in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s McCoy Studio Theater. Friday: Solo competitions will begin at 6 p.m. in the Castle Theater. Saturday: Group competitions will begin at 1 p.m. with The Napili Kai Foundation performing from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Yokouchi Pavilion before the competition begins.
