PLAY MELDS REAL-LIFE STORIES OF MICRONESIAN REFUGEES IN HAWAII. “Masters of the Currents” by Leilani Chan and Ova Saopeng tells the harrowing stories of Micronesians who fled their island nations due to environmental and economic pressures and the hope for a better life at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in McCoy Studio Theater at Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. Many of Hawaii’s most recent newcomers come from Micronesia. In addition to creating a historical perspective, the play seeks to bolster an ongoing dialogue and serve as a creative bridge between new and old immigrant communities. Tickets are $28 (plus applicable fees). To purchase tickets for any MACC event, visit the box office, call 242-7469 or order online at mauiarts.org.
