Sign up for fun educational programs, from Sea Talks to Sleepovers

Maui Ocean Center offers some of the best marine-related educational opportunities on island, including complimentary sea talks, school field trips, sleepovers and roaming visits by Ka Holo Moana, a mobile aquarium that can make event appearances.

School groups from Hawaii and out-of-state alike take advantage of the lesson plans as well as the activity sheets, which can be found on the MOCs website.

A variety of marine naturalist presentations are available during each school group’s visit. Teachers and others may also book an optional 15 minute Open Ocean presentation in advance of the group visit.

Sleepovers are a fun way for groups between 15 and 30 people to learn about what happens under the sea when the sun goes down and the nocturnals come out to play.

Activities for the group are customized for the ages of children and include a pizza dinner, crafts and games with the focus of marine life activities, a movie, continental breakfast and maybe some sleeping.

Complimentary Sea Talks are offered for all ages throughout the year and feature experts from marine-related fields sharing knowledge and stories.

Night at the Reef is a once a year experience that lets you witness live coral spawning and tour the Living Reef after dark.

Of course, you may choose any day to come and check out the marine naturalist presentations at various times and locations. Special dive shows transpire at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the Open Ocean exhibit filled with more than 20 sharks.

“Come to the aquarium to see the fascinating underwater world and to experience Hawaii’s incredible diversity of marine life,” says Lori Mellenbruch, director of Sales & Marketing. “We make sure that you have more than just photographs to take home with you. Our goal is to create a lifelong bond between people and the ocean, not only in understanding, but in ultimate appreciation.”
