Thank-You Letters

On behalf of Emmanuel Lutheran School Concert Band, I would like to say mahalo to the Flatbread Company in Paia for hosting a successful benefit night on Dec. 8. Proceeds raised from pizza sales and a silent auction will help fund travel expenses for our students to participate in the annual Lutheran Schools Music Festival on Oahu in March. We are very grateful for the support we have received from Flatbread.

Aloha, a big mahalo to the two young men who helped me to my feet at Times Supermarket on Jan. 4. The wind and my car door were too much for me to handle when they came to my rescue. I regret not getting their names but it goes to show the aloha spirit is alive and well on Maui.

The Valley Isle Community Federal Credit Union chose Family Life Center to be the recipient of its Christmas gifts event for 2015. The company’s staff gathered gifts for weeks before the big event that was held on Dec. 12 at the shelter on Kane Street and delivered two truckloads of gifts for children of all ages to the agency prior to the event.

The day provided a hot lunch, games and activities and gifts to over 400 people of all ages. Mayor Alan Arakawa and his wife attended with words of encouragement to the homeless.

The credit union provided volunteers for the event, under the direction of Francine and Terry Wong. Volunteers included Alia and Albert Garcia, Charla and Peter Kaina, Greg Pick, Nova Delacruz, Christine Vidal, Julie Managan, Isaac, LeeAnn, Kaleo, Dylan and Caleb Pena-Parrilla.

Family Life Center extends its deepest gratitude to all who made it the best Christmas event ever.

Parents And Children Together (PACT) on Maui wants to give a special mahalo to the folks at Hale Kau Kau who presented us with 22 turkeys to distribute to the individuals and families we serve. The families who received this gift no doubt had more reasons to celebrate and give thanks this holiday season. Your generosity embodies our organization’s vision of a peaceful and safe community, living as an ohana, successfully helping our members realize their dreams and full potential. Thank you for your support and for the valuable work that you do in our community. We look forward to partnering with you next year.

On Jan. 5, I took a two-day holoholo to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

During that time, I was X-ray’d, EKG’d, MRI’d, electro’d, vampire’d and nuke’d. I met scores of people (wish I could remember their names), from EMTs, ER staff, doctors, nurses, nurses’ aides, special lab technicians to transporters. Every one of them treated me skillfully, professionally and with a lot of aloha.

I think MMMC can be proud of its staff. Mahalo nui loa.

The Christmas holidays started early for many residents of Kihei when the Maui Neon & Signs threw its annual Lokahi Day on Dec. 12 to benefit Family Life Center and Na Hoaloha.

Eric Bulmer and his wife and business partner, Dani, owners of the company, have provided this special fun day and gift-giving event for the past eight years at the Meadowland Park in Kihei.

Each year, they distribute flyers throughout the neighborhood with suggestions of gifts people can bring to the party. They provide food, entertainment and exciting activities for all ages who attend the event. Toys and games galore are collected and delivered to the Family Life Center to be distributed to the children of clients. Cash donations and gift cards are given to seniors who receive services from Na Hoaloha.

This event is a great blessing for all who participate as volunteers and to the many people of all ages who receive gifts. A big mahalo to Dani and Eric Bulmer for hosting the great event and to the friends and neighbors who contributed.

For more information on the services of Na Hoaloha, contact Judy Guajardo, volunteer coordinator, at 249-2545, and Jackie Harp for Family Life Center at 877-0880.

Today I say thank you for standing with Prison Fellowship International and the Rev. Pua these last 20 years with your prayers. You have helped children and prisoners meet Jesus through our Bible studies and programs.

You are a blessing!

Christ has called us to rescue the oppressed and help bring them into the light of his love, his peace and his joy, which we celebrate this Christmas season. Luke 2:10, ” Do not be afraid; I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all people.” Love one another!

The Rev. Henrietta Pua Manuia-Hashimoto
