100 Years Ago

1917 — Maui Agricultural Company’s Grove Ranch will offer at public auction 34 head of brood mares and colts at the Paia Stables on Saturday, February 24 at 10 a.m. W. O. Aiken, auctioneer.

75 Years Ago

1942 — Air raid warning: series of short blasts. All clear: one long blast. There are no practice alarms.

50 Years Ago

1967 — The late County Chairman Eddie Tam’s name apparently will appear on the edifice of some governmental project, and the Makawao Recreational Council went on record requesting the Board of Supervisors “that the new Makawao Civic Center which is now under construction be dedicated and named the Eddie Tam Memorial Center.”

25 Years Ago

1992 — The County Council Public Works Committee is sold on the idea of a “McPermit” system that would allow builders of single-family homes and small commercial projects to make one stop at the County Building and then get right to work.

10 Years Ago

2007 — The first of the two Hawaii Superferries is undergoing sea trials, the shoreside improvements are moving ahead “on time and on budget” and the start date is still July. As far as Superferry leaders are concerned, the environmental impact statement question was settled in 2005, and if the state wants to reopen it, the state can pay for any delays.
