• Maui Association of Landscape Professionals monthly meeting, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. “Proper Pesticide Use & Safety” with Derek Shigematsu will be held at the Community Services Building, University of Hawaii, Maui College. Safe use of pesticides, both organic and inorganic, on your projects is not only a requirement but should be your top priority. Derek will begin by covering the services the pesticides branch of the MALP provides and give an overview of the program. He will be discussing safe versus unsafe practices for poisoning, proper storage and transportation. Additional topics will include understanding types and formulations of pesticides; the use of personal protective equipment; and proper storage andhandling. To conclude, Derek will discuss existing pesticide laws and regulations. Certification Credits: Pesticide Credits — 1.5 hours; Certified Arborist — 1.0 hours; LICT Credits — 1.5 hours. • Business workshops. Wednesday. The following County of Maui Mayor’s Office of Economic Development workshops will be held at Maui County Business Resource Center, Maui Mall, Suite B-9. To reserve a seat, call 270-5770. Workshops are free unless otherwise noted.

** “Grow Your Business with Email & Social Media — Simple Marketing Strategies in a Hands-on Workshop” with Mckenna Hallett will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. In this workshop, there will be a free worksheet for use during the workshop. Discover that marketing today is actually getting easier, not harder, if you know a few simple rules. This seminar will teach you the timesaving tips, techniques, and best practices to keep this all very doable. Learn the best practices.

** An Introduction to “Be Strategic: Grow your Business and improve Profitability” series with David Daly will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. The MEO Business Development Center is actively recruiting eight to 10 local entrepreneurs for the upcoming series. The series was developed for established, local entrepreneurs to grow sales and improve profitability over the course of eight evening sessions, held over a six month period. More information is also available at MEO BDC/Be-Strategic.

** “QuickBooks for Small Business” by Richard Kehoe will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Learn to set up your company’s QuickBooks in a small class setting with personalized tutoring. This class is for new users and will teach you how to record sales, receive payments, prepare invoices and balance your checkbook. Cost is $45.

• Fruit Fly Management. From 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday at the Community Services Building (205), UH Maui College, Kahului. Learn to identify and prevent fruit-fly damage. Learn areas and crops different flies like best. Bring an empty one- and two-liter plastic bottle and go home with both a lured and baited fruit fly trap.
