The Hui Holidays 2017 has tickets available for the First Night Celebration, from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center in Makawao. Tickets are $30 for this 21 and older event.

Enjoy this special opening of Hui Holidays where you can do your holiday shopping in style as you enjoy drinks, pupu and spirited music — all the while surrounded by the holiday decor of the festively decorated Kaluanui estate.

This artisan showcase provides a holiday wonderland of local and handmade items for everyone on your list. During this magical season, the Hui gift shop expands to include even more one-of-a-kind handmade gifts by local artists and crafters with items such as paintings, ceramic pieces, hand-blown glass work, locally made beauty products, holiday ornaments and more.

Additionally, the Hui is excited to announce the designers selected to create the famous 2017 Hui Holidays paper dress installation. Selected this year are Maui native Koa Johnson of Kojo Couture and Ry-n Shimabuku.

Johnson is known for his luxurious pageant and wedding gowns. He is a former instructor at the University of Hawaii Maui College’s Fashion Technology program. Most recently, he’s designed couture for the MAMo Wearable Art Show held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

Shimabuku is a freelance makeup artist whose work has taken him from Hana to Hollywood, but he calls Maui home.
