Viewpoints Gallery in the courtyard at 3620 Baldwin Ave. in Makawao is featuring two simultaneous exhibits running until Nov. 29.

In “Doodles & Art from Doodles” both the finished art work and the doodles that inspired them will be exhibited. Doodles are fun, relatable and part of our everyday world. They are a portal for creativity and imagination to burst through and have the potential to take the artist out of their comfort zone.

The 2- and 3-D artwork will be exhibited along with the framed doodles from any number of sources: cocktail napkins, the back of the phone bill, envelopes and scraps of paper.

The co-exhibit is “American Icons” and is a first-time showing of a collection of original photographic prints from the 1950s to 1970s. All images were shot by Carl W. Rozycki, a professional photojournalist and the father of long-time Maui resident, Carl Rozycki. The elder Rozycki captured his striking black and white photographs from around his hometown of Long Island, N.Y.

This is a special one-of-a-kind exhibit that shares the hidden treasures of a family’s archives of images that captured some of the most iconic moments of the era: Nixon protests, ’60s fashion models and Norman Rockwell-esque childhood portraits.

The senior Rozycki made the prints himself in his home darkroom and these images cannot be reproduced since no negatives were found after he passed away.

Viewpoints Gallery is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For more information about the gallery or these exhibits, call 572-5979 or visit www.viewpointsgallerymaui.com.
