Village Galleries fetes local plein-air artist
Celebrating its 48th anniversary this year, Village Galleries has chosen Maui plein-air artist Carleton for its 2018 opening exhibition, which opens Friday and runs through Jan. 25. Join the Gala Artist’s Reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at its Lahaina location, which will include refreshments and live music.
Carleton’s light-filled oils capture Maui’s charm with a nostalgic touch. Lahaina’s landscape is perfect for his plein-air oil paintings of local subjects. He is an award-winning annual participant in the Maui Plein Air Invitational; repeat winner of the Lahaina Poster contest; and has been represented by Village Galleries for over 25 years.
“It’s been an exciting challenge to capture West Maui’s uncommon landscape,” says Carleton in his artist’s statement for the gallery. “As the sun rises over the mountain, the early morning light shows the beauty of everything it touches.”
Village Galleries is located at 120 Dickenson St. and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For more information, call 661-4402 or visit www.villagegalleriesmaui.com.
