Maui’s Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice skates to the big screen.

Actor Ed Helms shows off Ululani’s logo T-shirt in the newly released film, “Father Figures.” The movie also stars part-time Maui resident Owen Wilson. The Ululani’s logo on the T-shirt is clearly visible in several of the final close-up scenes, which offers the island company a significant branding opportunity.

Ululani’s has gained global acclaim for its extremely fine and handcrafted shave ice and amazing true-to-taste syrups made with pure cane sugar and real fruit such as calamansi lime and coconut.

“We also make our own ice from ultra-purified water and have been innovators in the ‘new-wave’ shave-ice movement, proving that all shave ice is NOT created equal,” says owner David Yamashiro, who started his company in a tiny Lahaina shop during the 2008 recession.

Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice now serves its world-class treats at five Maui locations: Lahaina, Kahului, Kihei, Maui Lani in Wailuku and at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali.

Most recently it kicked off its franchise division on the Big Island at the Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. Several more franchise locations are scheduled to open in 2018 on the Mainland.

“Seeing Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice T-shirt being worn on the screen was a proud and emotional moment,” explains Ululani Yamashiro, namesake of the company and wife of David.

“We hope that the residents of Maui are as equally proud to call Ululani’s, ‘Maui’s own shave ice shop.’ “
