Newest works by Maui artist Joelle C.
Local Maui artist Joelle Chicheportiche Perz will present new works at the eponymous Joelle C. Gallery located in The Shops at 505 Front Street in Lahaina.
Opening Saturday with an artist’s reception, which is open to the public from 6 to 9 p.m., the show is titled “Water Memories” and is a collection of new works inspired by her life in Hawaii and her recent travels and navigation in the South Pacific and the Caribbean seas.
Born in Paris, Perz studied fine art and art history at University of Aix-en-Provence. She furthered her education by working with masters of mural painting in Mexico and printmakers in San Francisco. Since moving to Maui in 1982, Perz has recently explored woodblock carving.
This prolific artist is proficient in many media, including painting in oils, acrylics and watercolors, printmaking, lithos and painting on hand-carved wood pieces, a unique technique combining both her experience in painting and printmaking. Her paintings reflect an intimate joy for color, light and a poetic approach to reality.
Her unwavering appetite for learning and experimenting led her to deepen her knowledge of colors.
“Water Memories” runs through April 30. Daily gallery hours are from 1 to 10 p.m. Call 662-0799 for more information.
