These are the final weeks to view The Schaefer Portrait Challenge, in gallery at the Schaefer International Gallery at Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului through March 18.

This statewide juried exhibition has been held triennially since 2003 and encourages Hawaii artists to present the people of their island communities through explorations in portraiture. The prestigious exhibition features the carefully selected entries of artists whose work best captures Hawaii’s extraordinary portrait subjects.

Gallery visitors still have the opportunity to select the Marian Freeman People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Gage Schubert, which will bestow a $5,000 award to the artist who receives the most popular votes cast through March 7. Visit the gallery and vote for your personal favorite.

Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Admission is free.

Please note: The gallery will be closed today.
