Merwin Conservancy welcomes author and environmentalist Bill McKibben
Best-selling author and renowned climate change activist Bill McKibben is the featured guest at the Merwin Conservancy’s environmental and literary salon series, “The Green Room,” beginning at 7 p.m. April 18 in the McCoy Studio Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.
McKibben was awarded the Right Livelihood Prize, sometimes called the “alternative Nobel,” in 2014. His 1989 book “The End of Nature” is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change.
The Boston Globe has called him, “probably America’s most important environmentalist.”
McKibben is the author of more than a dozen books including “Enough: Staying Human in an Engineered Age” and “Deep Economy.” He is founder of the environmental organizations Step It Up and 350.org, a global-warming awareness campaign that in October 2009 coordinated what CNN called “the most widespread day of political action in the planet’s history.”
“At a time when examining our interconnectedness with nature and deepening our ecological understanding could not be more important, it is more than perfect that we have Bill McKibben joining us on Maui in ‘The Green Room,’ “ enthused Sarah Tekula, interim executive director at The Merwin Conservancy.
McKibben marks his appearance in “The Green Room” with a presentation and talk, followed by an intimate Q&A session with the audience, and a book signing at a courtyard reception with refreshments, book fair and live musical entertainment.
Tickets are $25 per person and $10 for students with a valid student ID.
