Maui chocolate factory to open in spring

According to the Maui Visitors Bureau, Maui Kuia Estate Chocolate Factory will debut in Lahaina in the spring.

When it opens its doors to the public, Maui Kuia Estate Chocolate’s factory will offer what is called a Hawaii farm-to-bar chocolate tasting experience.

It will feature premium chocolate made from cacao grown in the Maui ahupuaa (land section) of Kuia, as well as Ecuador, Brazil and Costs Rica –all of it handcrafted in the chocolatier’s 100 percent solar-powered, 9,000-square-foot facility. Maui Kuia Estate Chocolate’s factory will also include a retail store and a bar for chocolate tastings, as well as offer housemade ice creams, pastries, chocolate drinks, desserts, a chef’s table and a second-floor, open-air pavilion.

Maui Kuia plans to donate 100 percent of its net profits to Maui charities and nonprofit organizations.
