1919 — Another Maui boy has distinguished himself as a soldier in France. Wounded three times and still in the hospital in England, he has recently been decorated by King George for distinguished service and exceptional valor. The young hero is William K. Hussey of Lahaina.

1944 — Seven more convicts escaped from the Olinda prison camp and surrendered to police early Thursday after a few hours of freedom in the latest in a series of walkouts from the camp.

1969 — Restoration of Lahaina on a “meaningful basis” is ensured, Mayor Elmer F. Cravalho said in announcing the release by Gov. John A. Burns of $44,500 for the project.
