Comedian George Lopez will bang his way back into Maui after a seven-year hiatus on Feb. 17 at Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Tickets go on sale to members Friday. Photo courtesy MACC

KIDDING ASIDE . . . OMG! George Lopez is coming back to Maui for the first time in seven years for the Wall World Tour on Feb. 17 at Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. Tickets go on sale Friday to MACC members and to the general public on Dec. 7. I’m hoping that Food & Beverage Managers Lisa Haole and Luana Argel will serve spicy Latino fare to go with his saucy repertoire– and pour icy margaritas, too.

Maui’s own Willie K sings like an opera star, strums his guitar like Jimmy Hendrix and he’s got an acting ability that’s landed him in film. From 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Willie will unleash his comedic talent at Mulligans on the Blue in Wailea for those 21 and older.

“I’ve always wanted to do standup comedy, and truly believe if you ain’t laughing, you ain’t living,” Willie says. “A Haole, a Hawaiian & a Hillbilly” show will keep you in stitches with island comedians Eric Hofer and Brian Michaels. Presale tickets are $20. Visit www.mauicomedylive.com or call 280-6581. Tickets will also be available at the door.

“Mulligans owner Mike O’Dwyer says he’ll be offering his standard happy-hour menu all night with all of the $8 prices as usual,” says Michaels. Choose from potato tacos to mini fish ‘n’ chips to jumbo chicken wings.

“We will also have three special burgers to go along with the theme,” says O’Dwyer. ” A Haole Burger with avocado, mayonnaise and lettuce; a Hawaiian Burger with pineapple and teriyaki; and a Hillbilly burger with bacon, onions and barbecue sauce.”

“And mark your calendars for Saturday, March 16 for the Willie K Golf Tournament,” O’Dwyer adds.

Speaking of marking your calendars, the Four Seasons Resort Maui Wine & Food Classic will debut March 1 to 3 at the Wailea resort. Meet 28 winemakers from Marciano Estate to Pio Cesare to Harlan and spirits producers such as Casa Dragones tequila. Five elite dinners, an after-party at the Serenity Pool, a gala on the oceanfront lawn, master classes and celeb chefs Jennifer Carroll of Spice Finch in Philadelphia, Jason McLeod of Ironside & Oyster in San Diego and Jason Fox of Commonwealth in San Francisco will all add pop.

Now through Dec. 23, Four Seasons here is presenting Kama’aina Season with deals on rooms, dining and spa for Hawaii residents. Call 874-8000.

Heading to Hana? From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, the Ala Kukui Hana Retreat will hold an opening ceremony for the Makahiki season at Kahanu Gardens on Ulaino Road near Hana town. Makahiki is an ancient Hawaiian festival with games and food in honor of the god Lono, and it spans four consecutive months.

“It will be open to the public,” says Kaui Kanaka’ole, Ala Kukui’s executive director. “The opening ceremony will have chants and awa and we’ll eat some of the foods that are dedicated to Lono.”

Dig into puaa (roasted pig), kalo (taro), ulu (breadfruit), maia (bananas) and ia (fish). Then play Makahiki games such as ulumaika (lawn bowling) and moapa hee (club toss) and learn all about Hawaiian culture.

“On Dec. 7, we will present Noenoe Nights (named after the Hana rains) at Ala Kukui. We’ll have food by Hana chefs, drinks for cheer and we’ll create wreaths with foraged plants,” says Kanaka’ole. “We’ll also do a pop-up in Central Maui in mid December.” Call 248-7841.
