TASTY TRIBUTE . . . Veteran’s Day is Sunday and it is officially observed Monday. Rock & Brews in Paia will pay tribute to veterans, active military and first responders with free food on both days.

Co-founded by KISS front men Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Rock & Brews will offer pulled-pork sandwiches with a side or Strawberry Fields salads (with proof of service) from opening until closing.

“I have been coming to Maui since 1977, and it is still my family’s first choice for vacation, so we are there as much as possible,” Stanley emailed me. “We consider the island our second home.”

West Maui’s home for affordable comfort food, Pizza Paradiso is celebrating 20 years now through Nov. 20 with discounts and donations.

“I want to give back to Maui,” shares executive chef and owner Paris Nabavi. “Patrons receive a 10 percent discount off their orders with a minimum of $15 per person. I’ll match 10 percent of the sales and donate it to the Habitat for Humanity Maui’s Hurricane Lane recovery efforts and the fire victims who lost their homes in Lahaina.”

Roy Yamaguchi is celebrating his 30 years of being a chef in Hawaii with a party at his Humble Market Kitchin at Wailea Beach Resort, Marriott Maui. He and restaurant partner Shep Gordon will present the Hukilau benefit for Maui Arts & Cultural Center with foods by eight top Maui chefs from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Guest chefs include Perry Bateman of Mama’s Fish House, Michael Lofaro of Humuhumunukunukuapua’a, Isaac Bancaco of Andaz Maui, Sheldon Simeon of Lineage and Kyle Kawakami of Maui Fresh Streatery along with host chefs Charles Andres of HMK and Scott Higa of Wailea Beach Resort. Cost is $108. Call 879-4655.

Chinese Heritage Festival “Taste of China” will entice with free admission from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wo Hing Museum on Front Street in Lahaina.

Red-bean mochi, freshly baked pineapple buns and sweet sesame candies are authentic Chinatown treats that will be flown in from Honolulu Friday morning by Theo Morrison of Lahaina Restoration Foundation along with li hing mui, crack seed and coconut mochi.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset will present a wine pairing dinner at the Plantation House in Kapalua at 5 p.m. Tuesday to benefit its environmental scholarship program. Cooking the meal will be new Chef Eric Purugganan who hails from Alaska. In Hawaii he’s cooked at The Mill House, and was executive chef of Merriman’s Waimea and Westin Ocean Resort Villas on Kauai. Performing at the dinner will be Anthony Pfluke. The cost is $125 and seating is limited to 100 people. For tickets, call Lahaina rotary club President Heidi Dollinger at 359-4245.

The Leis Family Class Act at UH-Maui College campus in Kahului will present the Famous Festivals buffet from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15. For $50, enjoy Greek, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese fare. Call 984-3280.

The 29th Day of Hope Run/Walk will take off at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in Wailea. Four Seasons Resort Maui will top it off with breakfast on its oceanfront lawn, hosted by Master of Ceremonies Howard Dashefsky.
