AARP Foundation offers tax prep aid

AARP Foundation volunteers will offer free tax preparation assistance in Central, South and West Maui beginning next month.

The program is open to the public, and all volunteers are certified through the AARP Tax-Aide Program. AARP is targeting low- to moderate-income people.

The service will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon at:

* Kahului Union Church, rooms 11, 12 and 13, 101 W. Kamehameha Ave., Saturdays Feb. 2 to April 13 (except March 30) on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not call the church office for information.

* Kaunoa Senior Center, Spreckelsville, Feb. 6 to April 10 (except March 20). By appointment only, call 270-7308.

* West Maui Senior Center, 788 Pauoa St., first and third Tuesdays from Feb. 5 to April 2. By appointment only, call 661-9432.

* Kihei Community Center, corner of Lipoa Street and Piilani Highway, second and fourth Mondays, from Feb. 11 to April 8, first-come, first-served basis.

Taxpayers need to bring a photo ID and Social Security cards for all family members. If filing married filing jointly, both spouses must be present. Participants also need to bring 2011 federal and state tax returns and current tax documents.

Free e-filing of returns will be done.
