Web sales begin for Oahu-Sendai flights
HONOLULU – Hawaiian Airlines has started selling tickets online for upcoming new service to Sendai, Japan.
The service three times a week will begin June 25. The flights will fly direct from Honolulu to Sendai and stop in Sapporo from Sendai on the way back to Honolulu.
Sendai will be Hawaiian’s fifth destination in Japan.
It’s the first link between Sendai and Hawaii since another airline stopped its service in 2004.
In the United States, tickets can be purchased at www.hawaiianairlines.com. In Japan, they can be purchased through Hawaiian’s Japanese-language website, www.hawaiianairlines.co.jp .
Drop in yen could hurt Hawaii tourism
HONOLULU – A drop in the value of the yen could be bad news for Hawaii’s tourism industry.
That’s because the yen is weakening as the dollar is strengthening.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that on Thursday the dollar traded above 100 yen for the first time since April 2009. Japan Airlines said that the drop in the yen’s value may have contributed to a 2.9 percent decline in Japanese visitors to Hawaii during the Golden Week string of national holidays from April 26 to May 6.
