Westin Ka‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas marks 10 years

The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas celebrated its 10th anniversary last month.

A hoolaulea was held Sept. 24 at the resort, which included an 80,000 orchid flower drop from a helicopter and recognition of employees who have worked at the resort since it opened on Sept. 24, 2003. There also was balloon sculpting, face painting, popcorn and plate dinners served all evening.

“In the past 10 years, we have expanded the resort to include new facilities and experiences for guests’ enjoyment. Our efforts have not gone unrecognized as our list of awards has steadily grown to include accolades, such as AAA Four Diamond recognition, SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) Member Favorite and many more,” said General Manger Angela Nolan in a news release.

The anniversary celebration continues until the end of the year with events including the Hope Fundraiser at Spa Helani on Oct. 17 benefitting American Cancer Society, the ‘Aipono Wine Dinner Series at Pulehu, an Italian Grill on Nov. 6 benefitting the Maui Culinary Academy and Skating by the Sea, a Ka’anapali Holiday from Dec. 1 to 31.

NEW LOCATION. Serendipity in Lahaina is moving.

It will now be located at 855B Front St.

The new location will continue to house its Serendipity-labeled clothing collections along with accessories and sarongs, a news release said.

TOP DESIGN. Jane Ornellas Marshall of the Wailuku-based interior design and architectural firm Marshall Design Studio LLC took home top honors at the American Society of Interior Designers award ceremony recently in Honolulu.

Marshall received a first place “2013 Design Excellence Award” for her renovation of “The Baxter Residence,” a condominium at The Palms at Wailea.

She also received a second place award for her restoration of the “Hawaiian Bungalow,” a 1940s-era home in the old Sand Hills neighborhood of Wailuku.

This is the second award Marshall has received for her “Hawaiian Bungalow” restoration.

She also received a 2013 Preservation Honor Award from the Historic Hawaii Foundation.

Founded in 1975, the American Society of Interior Designer’s is the oldest, largest and leading professional organization for interior designers, the news release said.

SPA TO OPEN. In December, the Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui will unveil its new multimillion dollar Willow Stream Spa.

The spa follows three years of improvements at the luxury resort, including to the award-winning Ko restaurant, which opened in 2012.

The spa will double in size, encompassing more than 9,000 square feet with eight manicure and pedicure stations, one makeup station, 13 interior treatment rooms and three outdoor spa cabanas.
