Stand Up Paddleboarding Yoga class launches

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea now has an expert-led Stand Up Paddleboarding Yoga class.

“Yoga is a mind-body practice with a laundry list of benefits,” said Senior Spa Director Pat Makozak. “Physically, yoga increases flexibility and strength, and the meditative aspect of the practice does wonders to reduce stress. By introducing (stand-up paddling) yoga, we are able to offer guests a truly unique experience, in which they can bring their yoga practice to the next level or simply just try their hand at something that’s a lot of fun.”

The classes are held in the mornings twice a week for a “nominal fee,” an announcement said. Contact the spa for schedule at 874-8000. Availability is limited.

Contest winners. Two Maui residents took top awards, including first-place in Mobi PCS and 808 Shells’ “Create Your 808” contest to produce a limited-edition cellphone case.

Rosie Sutherland of Maui created the winning design, which was based on a popular vote via Facebook. The design depicts the goddess Pele with flames and tapa-inspired elements in a black-and-white graphic. It will be developed into a limited edition Samsung Galaxy S3 cellphone case. The case will be produced by 808 Shells and sold exclusively in all eight Mobi PCS retail stores statewide by late this month. Mobi has a store at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center.

Sutherland won more than $1,500 in prizes.

Samson Harp of Maui took third place and Rusty Kamai of Honolulu received second place. They also received prizes.

Shave ice on TV. Maui’s own Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice was chosen to represent Maui and the state in a half-hour travel show “Official Best of Hawaii 2013,” based in Los Angeles.

A segment of the show was filmed at Ululani’s Shave Ice shops on the Valley Isle.

In its five years on Maui, Ululani’s has grown from a 65-square-foot shack in Lahaina to four shops on Maui with a fifth to open in Maui Lani this year, an announcement said.

The business is known for its ultra fine ice and real fruit-based syrups.

It has been featured or named in many Hawaii publications and on various websites.
