Google adds a session to seminar on Wednesday
Due to stronger-than-expected demand, Google has added a second session to its free seminar Wednesday for Maui businesses looking to grow their online presence.
The Maui Get Your Business Online workshop is part of a national Google program designed to drive economic growth by helping small businesses increase their online visibility to find new customers and to sell more products, according to the news release about the workshop.
The session from 9 a.m. to noon at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center drew 100 registrants, prompting Google to add a second session beginning at 1 p.m.
At the workshop, attendees will receive a free Homestead website, free customized domain name and Web hosting for one year, a business listing on Google and free tools, resources and training.
According to Google, 97 percent of Internet users look online for local products and services, but 68 percent of small businesses in Hawaii do not have a website or online presence.
Participants interested in attending the workshop for either the 9 a.m. or 1 p.m. session may register at www.hawaiigetonline.com or by calling (800) 986-6852.
U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz is teaming with Google to help host the event. Get Your Business Online partners include the Hawaii Small Business Development Center Network, Homestead, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and SCORE.
