ENERGY EFFICIENT. Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa recently celebrated its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver EBOM (Existing Building Operations and Maintenance) status, awarded as a result of a long-term commitment to environmental sustainability, a news release said.
The property recently completed renovations throughout the resort, including the pool area, Drums of the Pacific Luau and dining outlets. Throughout the renovation process, members of the hotel operations team worked closely with property owner Host Hotels & Resorts Inc. and with third-party consultants Green Building Hawaii to make the necessary environmental enhancements.
The sustainable features include 6 million gallons of water saved annually through new reduced-flow shower heads in all guest rooms; motion-sensing air conditioning that turns off when lanai doors are open or when guests leave the room and nonturf landscaping, which is 100 percent native and the addition of adaptive plants.
BIGGER SPACE. HUE, a locally owned furniture and lifestyle store, recently moved to 210 Alamaha St. in Kahului, the former Latitudes store.
The former proprietors of Latitudes continue their silk floral business as “The Garden” at the same location.
The new HUE store is about 5,000 square feet, which is triple the size of the former HUE location in Kahului.
In addition to new furniture offerings, HUE is expanding its bed and bath collection. It also sells home accessories and gifts, including tabletop accessories, hostess gifts, jewelry, soaps and lotions and ecofriendly wrapping paper and others.
In addition to what is trending across the country, HUE’s owners say they also offer locally made items. For more information, go to mauihue.com.
