25 families participate in grass sledding competition
The Brown ohana of Wailuku hosted a Hawaiian Style Sledding Competition on Dec. 23 at the Kahului Community Center.
Twenty-five families participated in the event.
Rules specified that sleds must be constructed out of cardboard, duct tape and paint. Wax also was permitted. Each sled had to be manned, but there was no limit to the number of riders. The idea was to create a sled that will go the farthest or be the most unique.
In the distance category, the winners were: first place, Koenig and John Biegel; second place, Kira Caterina; and third place, Lucas Dunnicliffe.
In the “crowd favorite” category, the winners were: first place, the “USS Shaka” manned by Chauncey, Nikki, Tristen and Ethan Brown; second place, Cole and Chloe Logrande and Gable and Sloan Beerer; third place, Coral Carhart.
