Maui schools participate in national arts program

Students at Maui schools participated in PTA Reflections, a national arts-recognition program.

Through PTAs at seven Maui schools, 224 students submitted creative works inspired by the theme “Diversity Means.”

Works include entries in the areas of literature, photography and the visual arts. Participating schools included: King Kamehameha III Elementary, Lihikai Elementary, Pomaikai Elementary, Pukalani Elementary, Lahaina Intermediate School, Lahainaluna High School and King Kekaulike High School.

Students’ works will be on display at the Lahaina Cannery Mall Saturday through Feb. 12. An awards ceremony for those students whose entries have been selected to represent Maui at the state level will be held 4 p.m. Feb. 12 at the mall.

Reflections committees at each school identified students in each category and age level to represent their school at the regional level. More than 60 entries were submitted.
