Subaru Hawaii event raises $30,000 for 5 nonprofits

Subaru Hawaii’s Share the Love sales event raised $8,000 for Hawaii Wildlife Fund and $3,000 for SPCA Maui. Checks were presented to the two organizations at Island Subaru in Kahului on Jan. 24.

The event donated $250 for every new vehicle sold by Subaru Hawaii dealers from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31. In total, Share the Love raised $30,000 for five nonprofits: $8,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, $8,000 for Hawaii Wildlife Fund, $8,000 for Oahu SPCA, $3,000 for SPCA Maui and $3,000 for Hawaii Island Humane Society.

The public also had an opportunity to vote for their favorite participating nonprofit on Subaru Hawaii’s Facebook page. At the end of the sales event period, Oahu SPCA was the winner, with 47 percent of all votes, and was awarded an additional $5,000. Last year, Hawaii Wildlife Fund came out on top and received 45 percent of all votes.

“Hawaii Wildlife Fund’s multiple, ongoing conservation projects will benefit from Subaru Hawaii’s generosity and the publicity of the Share the Love campaign,” said Hannah Bernard, Hawaii Wildlife Fund president. “We hope that other businesses recognize the importance of giving back to the community, so we can all work together to protect our natural resources and make Hawaii a better place to live.”

“Being a part of Subaru Hawaii’s Share the Love campaign has been fantastic in so many ways,” said Whitney White, SPCA Maui president. “SPCA Maui extends mahalo nui to Subaru Hawaii for this contribution, which will help us save thousands of dogs and cats from homelessness and suffering through our spay/neuter programs.”
