Church to host conference for liturgical musicians

St. Anthony Church will host the Valley Isle Liturgy & Arts Conference on April 12-13. Noted composers Marty Haugen, Joe Camacho and Bobby Fisher, as well as Father Jim Orsini, will headline the conference.

In addition to workshops for liturgical musicians, there will be numerous workshops on topics such as theology, scripture, spirituality and personal enrichment.

Workshops and liturgical experiences of hula, oli and Hawaiian hymns will be featured elements of the conference.

The late kumu hula John Lake’s daughter, Sissy Lake-Farm, and his hanai son and owner of the Native Intelligence store in Waikapu, Kono Ai Molotau, will be two of the many featured workshop presenters.

This year’s program will begin with a concert at 7 p.m. in the church center April 12 and will continue with prayers and workshops at 8:30 a.m. April 13. Participants are invited to attend the closing liturgy at 5 p.m., with a get-together following Mass. For more information, call St. Anthony parish at 244-4148.
