KKHS’ spring concert to include special guests

King Kekaulike High School will present its 16th annual spring concert at 7 p.m. April 9 in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and admission is free.

The concert will include a a guest appearance by the husband-and-wife team David and Kyla Fague. David Fague is the director of jazz studies at Gonzaga University, and Kyla Fague is adjunct music professor at Whitworth University.

The spring concert program will feature performances by the Na Ali’i Big Band and the King Kekaulike Wind Ensemble.

There will also be a jazz workshop Saturday at the KKHS band room from noon to 4 p.m. that is free and open to the public. Guest clinicians at the workshop will include David Fague, Robbie Ray, Dayan Kai, Bren Hurtado, Mitchell Ota and Richard Tadaki.

There will be an instrumental clinic from noon to 1 p.m.; an improvisational clinic from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. and an open jam session from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
