Students learn about Maui watershed

In February and March, East Maui Watershed Partnership and Maui Invasive Species Committee teamed up to provide classroom presentations and field trips into the Nature Conservancy’s Waikamoi Preserve for 7th- and 8th-grade science students at Kihei Charter Middle School.

“By getting into the classroom first, you can introduce the students to the concepts they will see in action out in the preserve,” said Allison Wiest, East Maui Watershed Partnership community outreach and education liaison.

“It is important to target our youth to learn about the source of water on Maui and the fragility of our native flora and fauna when new invasive pests arrive,” said Wiest.
