Event will help kids exercise minds and bodies
The Maui Family YMCA will celebrate YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The free community event is part of the YMCA’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being. It will take place at 1,900 YMCA facilities across the country in an effort to promote healthier behaviors now and throughout the summer, according to a news release.
“At the Y, we know parents struggle to keep their kids physically and intellectually active every day. We want to help ensure fewer kids are at risk of childhood obesity and more kids excel in school,” said Mike Morris, president and CEO of Maui Family YMCA. “YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will get kids moving and learning while also helping families get a jump on creating a healthier summer, and ultimately a healthier future.”
Healthy Kids Day will take place at the Maui Family YMCA at 250 Kanaloa Ave.
The event will feature a bicycle safety course, a fun run, water activities in the pool, and healthy eating samples.
Police and firefighters will be on hand to present ideas on health and safety.
Mayor Alan Arakawa will proclaim YMCA Healthy Kids Day at 7:30 a.m.
The Fun Run and 5K Race will follow the mayor’s proclamation.
